I planted another 100 Western Red Cedars this last month.
I am cloning some of the old growth Western Red Cedars from the Tanwax Vally.  My initial effort will consist of cloning 720 trees stay tuned.

I gave myself a Birthday present today.

I planted 20 western Red Cedar trees on my property today.  I have planted over 1500 trees on my property and the cedars seem to be doing the best.  As I was planting the trees I noticed something. There are ancient Cedar stumps all over the property judging by their size the trees were 600 to 1000 years old when they were cut over 100 years ago.  I can see the notches on the side of the tree stumps where the Cursers (Name for loggers of old) cut into the trees to saw the trees down by hand.  As I was planting I realized the trees that are on the property are not the native species that thrived here in days of old it was the Cedars that thrived on this chunk of land.  The Douglas fir was planted here for economic reasons and I have decided to change my planting strategy and re-populate the land with its’ native species.  It took me 10 years to figure out that to rehabilitate the ecosystem for my Grandchildren I need to plant more cedars.  On the chunk of land I fondly refer to as Country Peace.

David.
